Logo

This is a picture of my Logo that I have created in Photoshop. After researching famous Film symbols/Logo's I decided to go with a simple idea, in order to not detract the main focus of my poster. 'JR' are my initials and the diamond was a shape I created to accompany the letters. I also felt that a diamond symbolises the concept of beauty - which is what my film is about. 

Production Logo Research

From my class feedback, I have decided to design a company Logo to add to my poster. Today I have done some research of film company logo's to gain some ideas. I have looked at iconic/famous logo's. This is because they're well known therefore obviously have something good about them that audiences like.

1. I particularly like the stars surrounding this logo. A lot of stars symbol that a film is good as they're often rated out of stars in reviews. Another thing I like about this Logo is the font of the word 'Paramount.' It's a font that flows nicely. It appears as though it is aimed more at a female audience which  is what my film is aimed at.

2. I really like this logo. I think calling the company 'DreamWorks' is really different. The background clearly goes with the company name. Something which I need to consider when designing my own logo.

3. I like the lion used in this logo and many people recognise this symbol. I don't however feel a similar idea would work well for my company Logo. This Logo looks more aimed at males which goes against the concept of my film. I do feel however that 'MGM' is good because the title is kept short. I would like a short title for my own logo, perhaps my initials.

4. I like how unlike the logo's above this one is not square. I don't feel a square logo would look right on my poster. 

5. Out of all the logo's this is probably my favourite. It is small and compact which is what I want on my poster as there is not a lot of room left and I don't want it to detract from the message my poster conveys. I also like the fact it is in black and white which also means it wouldn't distract from the attention of the poster. It makes me consider doing a Logo that is specifically for the area I like in, Norfolk.

6. Although not a famous logo, I love the shapes that have been used for this company. It is a really simple idea but works affectively, especially with the various colours contrasting with the black text which is situated in a simple font. 

Conclusion: From my research I have decided to create a Production Logo including my initials (like number 3 - 'MGM') and with a shape to symbolise the logo (like in number 6.) I have chosen this because I feel it is a simple concept that will work well with my idea.

Poster Class Feedback

Even though I got some feedback from some people outside of class, today we evaluated each others work. I have already made some changes to my poster from the Audience Feedback I have already gathered, so I was keen to make more changes if my class felt it was necessary. Below is a picture of the comments I received;

With all these scores added together this gives me an average score of 8.5/10.
After considering the comments, majority of them suggest that I shoud add on a company logo to my poster. So I will now work on designing one and then added it to my poster where appropriate.

Audience Feedback Corrections

From listening to my audience feedback, I have made two corrections to my poster. These included changing the colour of her lips slightly and adapting the colour of the release date so that it was more visible. Below is now what my poster looks like;

Poster Audience Feedback

Above is a video of the questions I asked people and the responses they gave me about my poster. I found this really useful, as it has given me some areas to improve on. I have now decided to go back and make the models lips more even and change the colour of the date at the bottom so that is is brighter. Aside from this, I was pleased to see that they thought my poster stood out and majority of them understood the meaning behind it. Even if some of them didn't understand the full meaning, they still got the concept that it was about plastic surgery and how someone looked.

Poster Production 2

Today I have swapped over the image which I orginially used for my poster (which came from the internet) for the one which I took myself and that belongs to me.

This is the process;

1. I made the image of Louise bigger and put her in the same place as the orignial model.

2. I altered the background so that is was black and white.

3. I got rid of any blemishes she had - including any flaws in her skin/freckles on her neck and darkened her skin tone.

4. I created some shadowing on her face and neck in order to make her features standout more.

5. I then made her lips larger and a paler shade and adapted her eyes by making them lighter and placing eye shadow on her eyelids.

6. Next I made the overall poster look brighter.

7. I drew the same 'plastic surgery lines' on her face and added text.

8. This is the second draft of my poster, now with the image of Louise instead of the Model;

Overall this process was very simple, due to the fact I already knew what was required because I had done exactly the same thing with the model I took from Google Images. Using an image that had already been taken for a first draft really helped me in creating my own primary image.

Original Image

To the left is the image I originally used when creating my poster. This is because I wanted to try out my poster with a professional looking image before taking an image of my own. Using this image enabled me to consider what kind of person I wanted to use for my own photo. I need someone quite natural looking and for them to have their shoulders bare in order to create a good effect. With the elements of this model, I think that my poster will be effective.

To the right is the image I took today of my sister, Louise. I didn't just use her just because she is my sister and therefore arguably an easy option, but because in my opinion she fits the brief of what I am looking for. I tried to recreate the look of the model I found on the internet by putting her hair away from her face and having her shoulders bare. Currently the image is considerably dark and there is a shadow behind her in the background, however this does not matter as it can be corrected easily in Photoshop.
